Over the past couple of weeks I have been gearing up to start my triathlon training plan to prepare for an upcoming race in mid July in Western Maryland. So far my goal has been to build a small base for the running portion of the plan, so to that effect I have been running regularly to build “some” endurance. My first run a few weeks ago lasted for only more than 15 minutes before I had to walk it off, today I ran for nearly 40 minutes at a pretty good (at least for me) clip – did 3.5 miles in a little over thirty minutes.
The plan I’m following is centered mostly around running so that I can build a stronger base for what has been my weakest sport in past triathlons – been a while though – nearly 3 years ago since I did the last one. While I am emphasizing running I am not negleting swimming or biking.
My week will consist of 7 training sessions with a day off. That means that I will do a two day (swimming and biking).
My goal is not to “place” in the race, but rather finish respectably, preferably somewhere in the middle. Other goals? loose the beer gut and some excess weight I have been carrying around for the past few years.
I’m totally motivated to get this done and started next week. I officially begin on March 24. Wish me luck and stayed tuned for my progress, I will use my blog as training journal so that I can monitor my progress.
See you on the trails ![]()
