DIFFICULTY

The rides through the hills and meadows of Laurel Hill will take you through a parcel of land that was once home to a Revolutionary war hero, thousands of reformatory inmates, and a magazine of inter ballistic missiles.

Laurel Hill has evolved since it first appeared on the First Edition of Best Bike Rides D.C. Since then, new trails have been added and there has been a lot of development around the area, including a new recreation area along Lorton Road, Central Green, that includes a short paved path. The trails at Laurel Hill continue to be a local favorite for families and beginners, and offer regional riders a great place to ride when other destinations are closed or susceptible to damage. The gravel that covers the trails at Laurel Hill help water drain more easily.

The singletrack trails at Laurel Hill are suitable for riders of all skill levels.

LAUREL HILL

Location: Lorton, VA

Length: 12 Miles
Ride Time: 1 - 2 hours, depending on skill level and trails ridden
Ride Type: MTB
Difficulty: Level 2 Riding: Laurel Hill has become a local favorite for good reason. There are over 12 miles of trails, including a short paved loop along Forest Green. The Loops can be ridden individually or combined for a longer ride. The ability to segment the trails into shorter loops has made it a great destination for beginners and kids. Laurel Hill also provides connectivity to other trail systems via the Cross County Trail. You can easily ride more than 30 miles if you connect Laurel Hill with Wakefield Park to the North.

To the South, you can access the town of Occoquan and the soon to be completed Occoquan Greenway, which will provide access to the LakeRidge Marina and other Prince William County destinations.

Book: Laurel Hill appears in all of my books. Each book features a slightly different loop.
