Prince William Forest Park (PWFP) is preserved as one of the few remaining piedmont forest ecosystems in the National Park Service. Within its 18,000 acres are 35 miles of hiking trails, hundreds of acres open to primitive camping, a scenic paved road looping through the park (incidentally named Scenic Drive Road), several gravel roads, and a plethora of wildlife and plant life for city folks to enjoy.
The park is a haven for road cycling and even offers off-road riders with several miles of dirt and gravel roads, including a short section of singletrack built by IMBA. The out-and-back portion of the Scenic Drive loop is suitable for riders of all ages!
PRINCE WILLIAM FOREST PARK
Location: Triangle, VA
Length: 14 Miles, can be more or less.
Ride Time: Varies, depending on route and loops ridden.
Ride Type: Road (there are several gravel roads in the park suitable for a gravel or mountain bike ride).
Difficulty: Level 2 Riding: The Scenic Dirve at Prince WIlliam Forest Park offers beginner to advanced cyclists an opportunity to get out an ride on a relatively safe road. In my book I detail three rides. A 6 mile out-and-back road ride along a designated bike lane, a 14 mile road ride and a gravel/MTB ride.Beginers can take advantage of the out and back while more advanced riders can venture out and to a single or multiple laps of the scenic Drive. Beginners should be aware that if they venture on the full Scenic Drive there are two hills to content with.
